How many universities are there in India?

Do you know how many universities are there in India and what are there types?

As per the survey report of AISHE-2019 currently, in India, there are a total of 993 universities out of that 46 are central universities, 689 state universities,  124 deemed universities, 15 open universities, and 132 other universities.

🔵Types of Educational institutions.

Universities:-Universities are the institutions that have the power to award a degree to a person under the rules of UGC(University Grants Commission) or by the state legislature.

Collages:-The collages are the institutions that are recognized by universities and hence provide various degree courses.

Stand-alone institution:-These institutions are not affiliated by any universities and therefore they only run diploma courses.

Here are some examples of the stand-alone university.

1. Technical Institutes such as Polytechnics recognized by AICTE/State Directorate of

Technical Education.

2. Post Graduate Diploma in Management recognized by AICTE.

3. Teacher Training such as District Institute of Education and Training recognized by National Council for Teacher Education

4. Nursing Institutes recognized by the Indian Nursing Council/State Nursing Council.

5. Institutes directly under the control of various Central Ministries.

6. Paramedical Institutes as recognized by Paramedical Council.

7. Hotel Management & Catering Institute recognized by National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology.

Although there are 993 universities, when AISHE conducted the survey the total university which responded to their figures is given below.

There are various universities in the education field.

General universities:-These are multi-degree universities that provide various degree courses to students a large number of Indian colleges are affiliated with which general universities.

Agriculture universities:- Universities which provide agriculture degrees of B.sc, M.sc, And P.hd.

Fine Arts Universities:- Universities which only offer degrees related arts.

Language Universities:- Offers courses of any specific language.

Law Universities:- Deals which law degrees such as B.A LLB or LLB masters.

Management Universities:- This only provides management degrees in any particular subject such as event management, hotel management, airport management, etc.

Medical universities:- The only way to get admission in a college affiliated to these universities is by the NEET exam by which people become doctors.
